In 2005, CSL was retained to provide a comprehensive assessment and benchmarking study of key factors that impact the ability of the Greater Cincinnati Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Cincinnati Convention Center to operate as effectively as possible in terms of maximizing financial results, economic impacts and service levels. Specific areas of focus for the analysis included the following:
- Review and benchmark financial operating levels for both organizations;
- Evaluate the organizational structure for GCCVB and Center operations;
- Evaluate and benchmark staffing levels for key departments within each organization;
- Evaluate and benchmark operational policies in place at the Center and GCCVB that impact customer service, financial performance and coordination between the entities; and
- Analyze potential methods of operational funding.
In addressing these study objectives, CSL conducted in-person, one-on-one interviews and/or focus groups with more than 50 key local individuals and business leaders in Cincinnati to gain critical background information and an understanding of the issues that impact the ability of the GCCVB and the Center to achieve financial, event, room night and economic impact goals. In addition, CSL conducted extensive interviews with visitor industry representatives in competitive and comparable markets focusing on key structural, staffing, financial and operational policy data for both convention center and GCCVB operations.
