WHATS NEW 2008-07-07 CSL to evaluate the feasibility of a minor league baseball franchise and ballpark in Sarpy County, Nebraska The NCAA has reached an agreement with the City of Omaha and the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA) to develop a new ballpark in downtown Omaha. The new stadium will replace Rosenblatt Stadium as the home of the College World Series. The Omaha Royals, the Class AAA affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, are considering several options for a new home following the expiration of their Rosenblatt Stadium lease. While the Royals may potentially play in the new downtown stadium, the team is also considering other alternatives. Sarpy County, Nebraska, a suburban County located just south of Omaha, is considering the development of a new ballpark that would keep the Royals in the Omaha metropolitan area. The County retained CSL to assess the feasibility of minor league baseball in the County. CSL’s study will include an analysis of local market conditions to evaluate the potential level of support for baseball in suburban Omaha. Financial and funding analyses will be conducted to provide the County with a picture of the potential upfront and ongoing costs associated with bringing baseball to the community. In addition, an economic impact analysis will be conducted to evaluate the economic activity and tax revenues that could be generated by a ballpark and team in Sarpy County. In addition to evaluating the potential operations of the Royals in Sarpy County, the study will also include analyses of other classifications of minor league baseball that could represent opportunities for Sarpy County should the Royals not relocate there.
